Matthew 6:25-27

I am a believer that God proves himself in many miraculous ways.  I guess more so since my cancer, I see many of the ways God reveals Himself to me and when I do, it always amazes me.  Read on for an amazing true story.

Matthew 6:25-27 says -- "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.  Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow or reap or store way in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they?  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?"

All of us ... I mean ALL of us worry about things.  Since my cancer I've learned to let go and let God take care of me.  Why should I worry?  I know I am valuable to Him than anything including the birds. If you know me well, you know I love birds.  They intrigue me as I sit and watch their personalities, the way they eat, they way they get agitated at other birds, the way they love each other.  They seem to have no worry in the world.

I was at my brother's house yesterday checking on him as he is currently recuperating from a fall last week on a bit of black ice of which he fractured his ankle.  <He is not a happy camper>  Anyway he was telling me about this little hummingbird that was still here and had weathered the ice storm last week.  WHAT?  That is totally unbelievable.  I looked out in the backyard and there were two hummingbird feeders full of nectar that he is keeping for the little guy who got left behind when all the others left to find warmer temps.  About that time my sister in law said the hummer was on the feeder by the back door and sure enough there the precious little one was ... drinking the sweet nectar that he needs to stay warm.  Beautiful green feathers and not much bigger than a AA battery.  He perched for a moment on a bush limb closer to the window and fluffed up his little feathers and away he flew, staying low and out of the cold wind that we had.  Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Well here you are with a first hand example of just how great our God is that does what He says.

We have no worries if we believe our precious Lord.  He knows what is going to happen in the next seconds of our lives.  He has it all under control.  I don't know about you but how very grateful that He is Lord of my life and loves me so much more than that little hummer that was left behind ... but He is still providing for the little guy through my brother.

I know it's been awhile since I've posted but I think about my blog all the time ... time time time ... it seems to get away from us, doesn't it.  My goal is to start posting more because my writing is something that I love doing.

For now love and blessings!

Yea Though I Walk Through the Valley ....

Have you ever walked through a valley, a deep dark valley?  I'm sure that walking through dark valleys is not something anyone does on a routine basis and when you think about it ... why would we?  I mean after all, I'm scared of the dark.  However, I certainly have been in my share of some pretty dark valleys in my life ... deep and dark valleys ... and I was really scared.  First, the valley was deep and second, remember I'm scared of the dark.  So am I talking about real valleys ... nope ... I'm talking about those times in your life that everything looked really dark and you felt like you were in a hole and could not figure out how in the world you were going to get out and you just think that you will never see daylight again.

Reading Other Blogs ...

I just found a really neat blog and the woman was writing about an incident that happened at her job. For the record, I absolutely love my job and the people I work with but there have been times I have had to tell myself ... it's just a job.

Turn Off The Water ...

During the time that I am not blogging, I am always thinking about things I want to write about, probably most of which I forget before I have or take the time to sit and write ... but during those thoughts of what I want to say, I always think about what I will name that particular blog post.  I always thinking about things I want to say (if you know me then you know I am a big thinker) and during those thoughts I always think ... I can name my next blog post blah blah blah. Again, I forget.  I really need to write things down more as reminders.

What's Your Hurry?

Learning to live a slowed down life is not easy for most.  Everyone these days are in such a hurry ... my question?   WHY?  Why are you in such a hurry all the time?  Did you not plan for traffic, did you hit the snooze six times, whatever the reason ... stop hurrying!  As my journey through my diagnosis continues, I have realized from day one of my diagnosis ... there is no need to hurry.

The Card That Didn't Make It ....

Good Sunday morning!  I write this morning with a pain in my heart.  Let me explain.  I found out last Tuesday a friend of mine, Stephanie (she started out as the attorney to a close family member and ended up as a friend as well as a cancer sister) was no longer practicing law due to her medical condition.  CANCER!   I HATE CANCER.

What Really Matters ...

Have you ever stopped and thought about --- what really matters in life?  Or do you do as I did until that fateful day, September 15, 2011, took life for granted?  Oh yea ... I did that.  I took life and good health for granted ... and BAM

A Mini Vacation Comes to an End ...

I think the title is actually a little deceiving as I didn't really take a vacation, I had four days off work in a row.  I got so much accomplished over the four days and I'm proud of that.

A Quick Update ...

First off, I do NOT have a mole.  Two Saturdays ago, the yard guys came to trim my tree.  Their chain saw was leaking oil/gas and this is the result of the mixture.

A Multitude of Things ....

Good morning blog friends.  It's been such a long time since I've had time to write and I must admit ... I miss writing.  It seems I was running around here trying to find as much stuff as I could to get in to. <smile>  If you recall, I made two new raised gardens that added to the two existing raised gardens that I started last year.  I had a wonderful pergola added over the patio.  I bought anything that looked like it would make a good planter and I planted in it.

Catching Up...

Good Friday morning.  I'm off work for the next four days and I'm looking forward to the time.  Of course this morning I was awake at normal work day time - 4:15am - with a migraine no less but an Imitrex and a cup of coffee and it's going away.

L-I-V-I-N-G ... life! What about you?

Thank you for not giving up on me.  Just wanted to drop in and let you know what I've been up to for the last three weeks since my last post..................   L-I-F-E !!!!  I've been up to life and I hope you have too.  Goodness ... isn't it great?  Absolutely !!!

I've been working very hard around here trying to get the gardens up and going and YES YES YES, I got my chickens - I call them my girls.  They are pretty and still too young to lay but who cares.  The girls are getting accustomed to their new home and us.  I got them Monday afternoon and brought them home.  I cannot wait each day to get home to see them.  They like seeing me too because I come bearing hen scratch.  They do not have tails to wag like a dog but they are excited I can tell.

Tonight I made the rounds to see if any of my produce plants are producing produce and they are.  Tonight I found a small squash, little okras, several tomatoes (I only knew of one last night) and some peppers.  The flower seeds are coming up nicely also.  LIFE ... it's wonderful.

So this is a quick catch up but I've been missing you all and getting to write so I am stopping just long enough tonight to send out a few words and some pictures.

See my chicken coop?  My sister and I put together the dog kennel which is now my chicken coop and then I secured chicken wire all the way around it for the safety of my girls (there are 4 laying hens ... no stinking rooster that crows).  The only time a laying hen makes noise is she clucks when she's laying her egg ... well I would cluck too if I laid an egg, wouldn't you.  Anyway so I ... yes I ... built those nesting boxes by myself last Friday on my day off.  The legs are the sides of an old end table my sister had and wasn't going to use (I told her to save them you just never know when you might need good wooden legs and waaa laaaa ... I did).  I went to Home Depot (I'm in love with that store) and bought cull lumber ... yes, that is correct cull plywood lumber and three 8 foot 1 X 2 for the framing and a box of screws and came home and starting building.  I only spent $10 to build it and I have lumber left over for my next project ... a potting bench made from a $10 garage sale baby changing table.  Pictures when I get it finished.

So here are pics of the girls.  They are pretty.  There are two Wyndotts and two red sex links (don't ask me about that name, that's just what they are).

Below are some of the flower pots/wagons/flower beds I have going and of course pictures of my produce.  <laughing>

So there you have it ... I'm not missing I've just been living.  I am so blessed to be feeling so well.  I still have my joint aches and pains and I am still walking 1/2 to 1 mile a day.  God is so good and has been so good to me.

Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as for the Lord, and not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. --- Col. 3:23-24

Blessings and much love !

It's Been Awhile ....

Hello ... anybody out there?  I feel like it's been forever since I've had the opportunity to write a blog post.  My desire is there but it seems I do not have enough time in the day to get everything done that I want to do.  Between the time factor and the energy factor sometimes something gets left out ... and well, lately it's been my blog.

So I got all my tomatoes, peppers, okra and herbs planted early and well guess what?  The frost got the peppers, tomatoes and okra ... not because I did not cover them because I did but because I was afraid to leave them covered all day so I uncovered them before I left for work and that's when they froze.  Booo!  Here's some really sad pictures of the poor things.  Top left - pepper  Top right - tomato  Bottom left another pepper and bottom right -- basil  So sad ... but never fear after a replant and we are back in business.

The newest raised garden that I made last weekend.  OH yea, I made the trellis' too.  At the base of each leg is squash and cantaloupe.  Picture below I planted strawberries under the trellis'.

Left --- squash up  close

Below --- strawberry plant up close.

Repurposed
an old sewing basket/
hat box.  Planted
pink flowers to go
with the pink box and it's sitting on an old wooden chair under my one and only tree in the back yard ... a Texas Ash.

 Left - herb bed
with strawberry jar that I found on the curb at the head of the bed and flowers at the foot.

Below - strawberry jar up close.  The strawberries are little but they are so sweet.
In the feed sacks are onions and in the pots are egg plant.
I saw this idea at the feed store where I buy my plants.

Left - Here' my chives
that wintered
well and came back.

Below - Tomatoes in tomato cages ... I won't make the same mistake as last year and not use tomato cages.  I planted 10 tomato plants... may seem crowded but who cares?  Not me!

Left - Pepper garden with about 12 or 13 pepper plants.  The most fragrant Pinks are planted down the middle.  The other little clusters of flowers are Phlox.

Aren't the chickens a cute touch in the garden?  I'm looking for more to put in the other beds.  These were FB online garage sale finds.
Left - Pinks up close.
They remind me of
miniature carnations and they smell so good.

Below -- Alyssum, little white flowers, that came back from last year.  I could not believe it.
Left -- the picture is way up close  but there is a sugar snap pea.  The sugar snaps  are now producing.

Below -- cabbage and other greens like turnip and chard.

 Left -- red leaf
lettuce, romaine
and curly leaf lettuce.

Below-- Curly leaf and romaine lettuce.

The two rockers that I got for a good deal on Craigslist.  See the grand littles rocker in the middle?

The chicken wreath on the back gate - FB online garage sale find.

Left -  The center of the patio
with the two wicker
chairs I bought at an
estate sale for a steal.
Pretty fresh flowers in the center.

Below -- the patio fountain surrounded by lettuce and flowers.

Below --- it's always fun to sit somewhere besides the patio and look at the gardens, bird feeders and flowers from a different perspective.  I was sitting in front of the shed on the west side of the yard and looking east.  I love doing this.

So the gardens are the reason I've been missing.  I've been very busy and I absolutely love sitting out in my back yard and watching the birds.  This evening I was sitting out there admiring God's beauty and a pair of cardinals flew up and sat on the back fence.  I was watching them and they chattered at each other and then they kissed and the female flew away.  The beautiful red male sat there a minute and looked around and then he followed.  Smart guy (bird)!  This is a picture I found on the internet.  I was so enthralled in watching them, I didn't even try to get my camera pulled up on my phone to snap a picture.

I continue to be very thankful for where I am today.  I am healthy and content with my life ... as boring as it may be to others ... it's my life and I love it.  God is good and I leave it all to Him to handle ... I mean after all ... Matthew 6:26 says ... Look at the birds of the air; they do not sew or reap or store up in barns, and yet our Heavenly Father feeds them.  So who are we to worry ...

Below is a little short video of my fountain as it trickles its water and the birds singing and the chimes blowing in the wind.  I love all these sounds ... to me they are peaceful.  And the water feature must be because I am a Pisces <smile>.

I pray for those who are newly diagnosed with dreadful breast cancer or any other cancer or dreadful disease.  If you are reading this ... know that I am praying for you.  You are loved, you are strong, and you will get through this ... Ask our Father and He will never leave you.

Would love to hear from you ... leave me a comment ... and if  you chose not to ... be blessed and be a blessing.
